Over the past coupleof years, my brother and I have made it a ritual to come down to vacation in Mexico at the beginning of every April. More specifically, the town of San Jose Del Cabo, which is located at the very bottom tip of Baja Peninsula. Now don’t get confused, this is not the Cabo that every 19 year old spring breaker withunder aged drinking dreams goes to. That Cabo is another 20 miles west of this one… and quite frankly, it’s a shithole. The Cabo that I speak of is a much quieter, less touristy Mexican town that lends itself better to outdoor adventurers such as myself. And over the course of our week stay, there were many adventures to be had…

Very exciting things are happening this weekend. Just today I was invited to take part in the Old Man winter bike rally, which is being put on by the Oskar Blues Brewery in Lyons, CO. Im very excited not only because this is my first formal event of the year, but this also means i'll officially be breaking my year long hiatus from riding in any sort of organized event. I'm really hoping that after participating in this, it'll reignite my passion for cross country mountain bike racing.
Alas, the heavens were good to the front range of Colorado. Just last night it was snowing like something out of a movie, and today I was greeted with perfect blue skies, and 32 degree temperatures. I couldn't have asked for a better day to test how the Echo faired in the terrain it was made for.
After the muddy maiden voyage on my newly built Echo, it was time to get her cleaned up and ready for its next adventure back home in Boulder. (Read about the mudfest here) After a short work week, I was able to sneak out and put another 15 miles on it before the sun set and the temps plummeted.
I've recently been talking a lot about fat bikes on this blog. Everything from the beginners crash course, to detailing what model is best for the average consumer... When just the other day it dawned on me that my readers have absolutely no idea what type of fat bike I ride as my own personal one. And what kind of credible fat biking aficionado would I be if I didn't go through it with you guys! So without further ado, The WKND Cyclist's Custom Borealis Echo. |
