Very exciting things are happening this weekend. Just today I was invited to take part in the Old Man winter bike rally, which is being put on by the Oskar Blues Brewery in Lyons, CO. Im very excited not only because this is my first formal event of the year, but this also means i'll officially be breaking my year long hiatus from riding in any sort of organized event. I'm really hoping that after participating in this, it'll reignite my passion for cross country mountain bike racing. I figured I would start slow, and just do the short course of the event, which is right around 28 miles (50K). Overall the course isn't anything to crazy... Mostly dirt roads and rollers with a bit of single track peppered in. But nonetheless, i'll need to ease back into this whole competitive riding thing. For a brief moment, I thought I would just do the course on my Niner mountain bike, then I realized it would be much more beneficial to my training to do it on the fat bike. Who would have thought riding an 11 pound wheel set would be great for your leg strength? Although i'm pretty confident that i'll have the endurance to pedal the fat bike around north Boulder for three hours, i've been pretty lazy this winter... So it may be a tough one. I just need to keep telling myself that i'm going to be fast this season! If you want to check out some more info about the Old Man Winter bike rally, check out the link here. Look out for a full ride/post ride party report come Monday afternoon!
